At least 18 people were shot, two fatally, in shootings across Chicago Saturday afternoon and night.
Two people were shot about 2:40 a.m. in the 6000 block of South Indiana Avenue on the South Side. A 32-year-old man was hit in the upper chest and died at John H. Stroger Jr. Hospital of Cook County. A 27-year-old woman was also hit in the leg. Both were taken to John H. Stroger Jr. Hospital of Cook County.
The Cook County medical examiner’s office identified the man as Corey Brownlee, of the same block where he was shot. He was pronounced dead at 3:26 a.m.
A 20-year-old man was killed in the 3000 block of West 53rd Place about 1:10 a.m. Police said a “known offender” shot him and that the shooting may be gang related. The man died at the scene on a sidewalk in front of a home. The Cook County medical examiner’s office identified the man as Joshua Martinez, of the 4900 block of South Karlov Avenue.
About 4:20 a.m., a man was shot in the 5400 block of West Diversey Avenue. He was wounded in the stomach and taken to Advocate Illinois Masonic Medical Center.
About 2:30 a.m., a 21-year-old man was shot in the forearm twice in the 1500 block of West 18th Place in the Pilsen neighborhood. He was shot blocks from where two people were shot last night. The man was taken to an area hospital in good condition.
