EFFINGHAM, Ill.—Effingham County State’s Attorney Bryan M. Kibler has announced the charging of four individuals in connection with a continuing and ongoing methamphetamine investigation in the region.

Arraigned in Effingham County Circuit Court Monday afternoon (earlier today) on felony methamphetamine charges, following the seizure of materials from a residence at 3803 E. 2000th Avenue in rural Shumway were the following individuals:

  • Cody L. Laue, 20, of Beecher City;
  • Tara L. Devoe, 18, of Shumway;
  • Stacey M. Beccue, 38, of Altamont; and
  • Nathaniel S. Sparks, 23, of Beecher City

“These arrests were a direct result of diligent preliminary work and the execution of a search warrant by Effingham County Sheriff’s Deputies on Saturday, April 5th,” said Kibler. “For safety and for cleanup reasons, our deputies were assisted by Illinois State Police troopers and the Illinois State Police Methamphetamine Response Team.

“This county’s investigation of meth production has been ongoing,” said Kibler. “This work by law enforcement is far-reaching in scope. And this work will continue.”

Cody Laue and Tara Devoe are both charged with Aggravated Participation in Methamphetamine Manufacturing in that each reportedly “participated in the manufacture of more than 900 grams of a substance containing methamphetamine” in the residence of “a person more than 60 years of age who is incapable of adequately providing for his own health and personal care.” Laue and Devoe are each charged, additionally, with simple Participation in Methamphetamine Manufacturing in an amount greater than 900 grams. Both charges are non-probationable Class X felony allegations, punishable upon conviction by not less than 15 and not more than 60 years in prison.

Judge Kimberly G. Koester set bail Monday for Laue and Devoe at $200,000 each.

Stacey Beccue and Nathaniel Sparks are each charged with Unlawful Possession of Methamphetamine in that each reportedly “possessed less than five grams of a substance containing methamphetamine.” Unlawful Possession of Methamphetamine is a Class 3 felony allegation, punishable upon conviction by either probation, or not less than 2 and not more than 5 years in prison.

Judge Koester set bail for Beccue and Sparks at $25,000 each.
