ANNA, Ill.—The city of Anna’s new police chief will bit right in with the rest of the dysfunction it’s known for.

We’d heard from the Justice for Molly group at least two months ago that former ISP commander Scott “Shooter” Rice was slated to be Anna’s new police chief. We said we could believe it; Rice has a long and spotted career with ISP and that sounded JUST like the kind of political favors that would be extended to someone of his caliber in one of downstate’s more corrupt counties (Union).

Shooter gained his nickname after an incident in 2005 wherein he shot two mushroom hunters in the Shawnee National Forest while he was poaching turkeys. Instead of being stripped of his ability to continue in the capacity as an officer in the state police, he was promoted. We covered the case very carefully in the print version; you can read the articles in their entirety here at this link.

Now, downstate news media is all aglow at Shooter’s new gig, since his retirement from ISP, where he helped to seriously bungle the Molly Young case….which is still languishing without charges, even though the situation, to anyone who has half a brain, is apparent. Shooter, incidentally, happens to be one of several who were involved in Molly’s case that were either reassigned, retired, or inexplicably ceased to be involved in the matter.

Just another day in corrupt southern Illinois; bad enough the paper that largely covers their area is run by people with an agenda to cover up facts that folks need to know…looks like they’ll find out soon enough about Shooter. We are still, by the way, looking into a report that Shooter was stopped for DUI some weeks ago in Pulaski or Alexander county, but let go with a warning. ISP…they take care of their own in this state, while the rest of us suffer.
