An 18-year-old high school student from Evanston has been charged after police said he carjacked an Audi with a sleeping 5-year-old boy inside Thursday in Park Ridge, police said today.
Deangelo Fountain, of the 1300 block of Fowler Avenue, is charged with aggravated vehicular hijacking, aggravated kidnapping, and unlawful possession of a stolen vehicle, Park Ridge police said at a Saturday morning press conference. He is expected to appear Saturday in bond court at the Leighton Criminal Court building, according to Park Ridge police.
Fountain – who police said is known to them for car burglaries in the area – saw a 2012 Audi Q5 parked and running about 12:20 p.m. outside a home in the 1700 block of Good Avenue, jumped in the driver’s seat and drove away. Drake Whitker was asleep in the back seat while his mother pounded on the door, pleading with Fountain not to drive away, Park Ridge Police Chief Frank Kaminski said Saturday.
Fountain later dropped the car off, with Drake still in the back and the keys in the ignition, in a Skokie alley about 6 miles away near Oakton Street and Laramie Avenue, police said.
