SALINE CO.—Just learned that a grand jury was held in Saline County today, and two indictments were handed down in very serious cases.
According to the Saline County State’s Attorney’s office, the two indicted were Jeffery T. Cowsert and Charles R. Ryan; click the links to see the true bills of indictments against the men.
Ryan was the man who, on December 23, is alleged to have stabbed and choked his stepfather to death in their home in Harrisburg. Cowsert is the school custodian who earlier in January allegedly threatened to shoot people at Harrisburg Schools if he wasn’t going to be considered for another custodial position coming open.
Grand jury indictments supersede original charges; State’s Attorney Mike Henshaw wisely conducts grand juries as an investigatory tool in order to affirm that charges against a person should be pursued.
Each case is being pursued through the court system; Ryan is currently being held at the Saline County Detention Center; Cowsert bonded out on January 10.
