HARDIN CO., Ill.—A fire this morning at a Karber’s Ridge-area house is the second incident surrounding an elderly lady whose deceased son’s estate seems to be a point of contention.
Dee Dobbs, 83, has been the object of someone’s (alleged) ire since the death of her son, Dennis, who passed two weeks ago. Since that time, Mrs. Dobbs has been the subject of scrutiny over not only a deed to a house having previously belonged to Dennis Dobbs, but also over other matters in the course of the settlement of the man’s estate, with Dennis’ ex-wife being the one to call matters into question, Serena Long, a woman in her 50s who has a teenage son with the now-deceased man.
On Monday, police reports indicate Mrs. Dobbs was physically beaten; in reports, she claimed that her arm was doubled behind her back and that she was bodily slammed against a porch railing.
There were no witnesses to the beating, so Mrs. Dobbs had to report the incident to county for prosecution. The person she said beat her up was Serena Long.
This morning (Thursday, January 30, 2014) a fire was called in at 11:17 a.m. At this point, it’s unclear to whom the residence, located on the corner of Karber’s Ridge Blacktop and High Knob Road, actually belongs; authorities have stated alternatively that it’s either Mrs. Dobbs’ house or one belonging to her uncle. Either way, it was a total loss, and the State Fire Marshal has been called in to examine it…especially since someone got an accurate description of a vehicle leaving the scene.
No charges have been filed yet; we’re trying to find out more.
