Police confirmed in a press conference that three people are dead following a shooting at Columbia Mall in Maryland. It is currently an active crime scene.
Howard County Executive Ken Ulman commended the law enforcement who rushed to the scene shortly after the first 911 call came in at 11:15 a.m. ET.
Chief Bill McMahon said police found three victims at an upper level store in the mall. One of those people is suspected to be the gunman, who appears to have shot himself. There is no apparent motive at this time and there does not appear to be another shooter. The victims’ have not been identified.
Law enforcement is continuing to clear the mall to make sure there are no more victims and to find people who may still be sheltered in place.
One person who suffered a seizure and another with a broken ankle were transported to the hospital as a result of the aftermath of the shooting.
