ILLINOIS—The Illinois Department of Corrections has placed eight prisons on lockdown due to staffing problems as affected by the cold weather.
Our downstate prisons of Lawrence, Robinson, Big Muddy (in Ina), Centralia and Menard, as well as Sheridan, Stateville, Pontiac and Graham are affected.
A press release from DOC spokesman Tom Shaer indicates that the Sheridan, Pontiac and Centralia prisons are not letting inmates move around except for medical needs, showers and restroom use. Shaer says the lockdowns are mostly due to low staffing levels due to the weather.
