SOUTHERN ILLINOIS—One of our wonderful readers has issued a brilliant suggestion to us, and we’re going to pass it along to you, as it’s something that could literally save a life in this cold weather.
Her suggestion is to ”Adopt a hydrant.”
“Keep it clear of snow in case fire fighters get called to a fire,” one of our readers, Ashley wrote in. “It will allow them to find and hook up faster to the hydrant if its free of snow/drifts etc.”
Ashley advised that her husband thought it such good idea, he went outside in his shorts and cleared the one near them right away. Good job!!
If there is a fire in your vicinity, and you’ve had some of the massive snowfall our northern areas have experienced, you can only imagine how difficult it would be to even get there in the snow, let alone get to the hydrant. So doing a little thing like clearing the snow away from the ones in your neighborhood will do EVERYONE good: you, your neighbors and the firefighters who would have to really brave the elements. But, not in shorts; temps are plunging. Stay warm and safe, readers. And thanks for the suggestion, Ashley!
