SOUTHERN ILLINOIS—We just heard from Wabash County Sheriff Joe Keeling, who is advising those in the areas that’s to be impacted by the VERY cold temperatures we’re going to get tonight to begin now in taking proactive steps to alleviate a major problem.
The tip from the Sheriff is to get out and coat the seal around your car doors with WD40 or another lubricating product of your choice. Even something like vegetable oil (such as Crisco) will work, Keeling said, “because it’s going to freeze quick, and untreated doors will freeze shut.”
Do this before the temperatures begin dropping, and even if you get snowed in (in the more northern areas, there is a LOT of snow expected), you’ll at least be able to get your doors open, should you need to get into your car for anything, for an emergency, to recharge phones, etc.
Good advice…our thanks to Sheriff Keeling for the cold-weather tip!
