SOUTHERN ILL.—Our rain event has been accompanied by something that a lot of people are talking about….a peal of thunder and flash of light that was kind of “weird,” even in the context of the downpour we’ve had going on all day in southern Illinois.
From one of our Facebook readers:

Approximately 630pm. We were eating dinner and a really bright flash (similar to a photography flash) cut though our dining room and the a very loud boom followed almost simultaneously. After the initial bang, a loud rolling thunder sound followed for what seemed like forever. I went outside and it just kept going. This is in Marion. I’ve read that people saw and heard it as far as Anna and mt Vernon. I called the police and they said it was just thunder.
While this occurred in Williamson County, we here in Richland County saw, heard and felt the same thing. We’ve been getting reports out of neighboring Lawrence County as well.
Did you see/hear/feel this booming roll that lasted about a minute, accompanied by a flash of light, at about that time? Leave your comments here or at the Facebook page, and let us know.
