FLORA, Ill.—Parents concerned about increased law enforcement presence at Flora High School can be put at ease, as it was a situation of a little bit of over-response.

Police Chief John Nicholson informed that there was a situation last week wherein a student was suspended for fighting with another student….and after the fight, had issued the vague threat, “I’ll take care of you.”

He also called Clay County Sheriff’s Department, asking if they had anyone who could swing by the school once in a while while on patrol.

Nicholson didn’t know, however, that the SD was having training today, and when he requested “a” deputy, he actually got FOUR responding….hence the increased police presence.

Nicholson assured parents that there is NO shooting threat, and in fact NO threat of physical harm to anyone, as everyone involved in the situation is doing what they’re supposed to be doing under the circumstances.

“It’s nothing more than a teen that punched a guy and said he’d ‘be back,’” Nicholson said, “so we’re just keeping an eye out.”
