LAWRENCE CO.—Sources in Lawrence County advised us this morning that quite a stir was occurring Friday night at The Townehouse in Lawrenceville, and there’s a kind of wait-and-see attitude as regards any fallout that might come from it.
We have confirmed that St. Francisville’s “police chief,” Billy “PeeWee” Darnell, and one of his illegitimate offspring, Travis Darnell, were partying it up at the popular bar, Tykal’s American (The TOWNEHOUSE, mistake from sources, we should have known PeeWee doesn’t go into Tykal’s; that’s above him), in Lawrenceville Friday evening. With them was PeeWee’s constant buddy, Dennis “Bullwinkle” York.
As is his wont, Travis Darnell (known as “Lil Pee”) got a little too rowdy, and a reported barroom brawl ensued, this involving PeeWee and Lil Pee (York was not involved in this one). Responding officer Ryan Curtis got caught in the fisticuffs, and Lil Pee reportedly clocked him in the back of the head pretty hard.
Our initial source on this advised that it was her belief PeeWee had been canned from the village of St. F as police chief. However, we made a quick call to St. F city hall, and were advised that “this was they first they’ve heard of it,” so apparently he’s still employed.
For how long, though, remains to be seen.
Darnell has caused problems for residents of Lawrence County for YEARS now. We’ve chronicled the beatings, car chases, running off the road resulting in accidents which ended in serious injury and in one particular incident, death, since 2003 (although some of those incidents occurred before that time.) And yet the punk is still employed by that city. Ostensibly, it’s because they can’t afford anyone with more than a part-time certification, which, we understand, at last check was all Darnell had. But why this continues, bringing disgrace to the constabulary county-wide (and now, injury to a Lawrenceville police officer/county board member, incidentally), remains a mystery.
We’ll have more as we get it, but just wanted to give you a heads-up on it; Lil Pee, incidentally, is featured in this issue’s Back Over Your Tales. Delivery is underway, or you can read it at the e-Edition with an online membership; get clicking!
