SOUTHERN ILLINOIS—Travelers are being advised that Illinois State Police have issued a “tow ban” on southern Illinois interstates 64 and 57 in counties affected by the current weather conditions.
ISP District 13 in DuQuoin issued the advisory a little over an hour ago (8 p.m.) that the tow ban was in effect specifically on these two highways. Illinois Department of Transportation is reporting that I64 from St. Louis to Mt. Vernon, Illinois is 70 percent covered in snow, and from Mt. Vernon to the Indiana state line is 100 percent covered in snow; and I57 from Missouri to Mt. Vernon and from Mt. Vernon to Effingham is 100 percent covered in snow, resulting in largely impassible conditions…hence the “tow ban” until conditions begin clearing.
Here in Harrisburg and throughout Saline County, it’s still icing…as you can see below:
Earlier today (around 1:30 p.m.), a correspondent was in the Carbondale area on Illinois 13:
And the ice was falling then, a little earlier than expected:
She reported several cars off the road at that time. And our own Jade had a hard time getting down here to Harrisburg, but she made it…barely…crawling in the Jeep in four-wheel-drive.
This crap is supposed to be followed by snow…up to 8 inches in some locations, which is to continue tomorrow through the morning. So use caution if you have to be out.
Of course, you know how we feel about it.
We’re ready to go back to Alabama. But we’ll stick around…just for you.
