We wanted to let you know a couple of things.
We’ve changed our mailing permit so that we’ll be mailing the print version from Harrisburg from here on out.
This means a couple of things.
One, we just paid our annual mailing permit fee, and it’s gone up. Again. That means that we’re probably going to experience a rate increase for subscriptions, because unlike mainstream media outlets, we don’t take in a lot of advertising, so our cost of subscriptions has to make a little profit, instead of undercutting the rack price or breaking even. That’s the bad news. The good news is that it won’t be TOO much of an increase, just a little one; we don’t have that amount yet, but we will after this next issue is produced.
The second thing is…mailing from Harrisburg now means that those with zip codes of 629 are now considered “local.” So all Egypt counties will be considered the “three-digit” mailing, and it’s entirely possible 629s won’t experience much of an increase at all.
Mailing from Harrisburg also might have an impact on how quickly your paper gets to you. We’re closer to the distribution point where everything pretty much was sent anyway, so this might mean expedited service. We’ll see.
The other thing is, we have a new vendor in Harrisburg: Discount Food Mart, the new convenience/liquor store over on South Main. That brings our Harrisburg vendor total to five now. This means you’ll have plenty of places to pick up your paper if you don’t want to subscribe or do the e-Edition, and this is good, because we are having enhanced Saline County-based articles coming up. You won’t want to miss them. Next print version (which we’re calling the December Special Edition, as there will be another on Dec. 18) on stands beginning November 26 and continuing through the 27th until all are delivered; this is a three-week paper, so pick it up quick!
