WHITE CO. - An accident this morning on Illinois Highway 1 between Grayville and Crossville resulted in two being air-evac’d to Deaconess Hospital in Evansville, Ind.
Sergeant Byrd Huber with White County Sheriff’s Office told Disclosure that the accident occurred around 9:30 a.m. today (Tuesday, September 24, 2013) in the vicinity of Lamont Farms on Highway 1.
Sidney McCombs, 20, of Carmi, was driving a Ford Freestyle minivan northbound on Route 1 with Kale Stover, 25, of Carmi as her passenger. Ms. McCombs was in the process of passing another vehicle and returning to the northbound lane at the time of the accident. The vehicle carrying McCombs and Stover was rolled when contact was made with the vehicle’s bumper that they were passing; much in the same fashion of what police refer to as a “California Stop.”
McCombs and Stover were both provided air-evacuation from the scene. McCombs was alert and complaining of internal pain, while Stover was unresponsive at the scene. Sgt. Huber was unsure of the level of their injuries.
The other vehicle involved in the accident, a Ford four-door, was being driven by David Koehler, 69. Mr. Koehler’s passenger was his wife Judy, 68. They too, are from Carmi and were on their way to visit family in Albion. The vehicle transporting the Koehlers was driven away from the scene, by the owners, after the investigation by police had concluded.
Sgt. Huber reported that there was no reason to believe at this time that anything other than driver error was to blame for the accident.
