MAKANDA—There are a couple of reasons why, even after we’ve received copious messages, emails and calls about it, we’re not heading down to Giant City State Park while the filming of “Gone Girl” is underway there.
Mainly, it’s because we’re adhering to the premise we’ve held for our nearly 11 years in business: Films, TV shows, etc., are a way for the powers-that-be to numb us down, get us distracted from the real problems in our country, make us not care that our basic Constitutional rights are either being taken away or threatened every day. When we get distracted, and comfortably numb in our own zone of ‘not-reality’ of films and celebrities, we tend to lose sight of what’s going on around us, even in our own communities, counties, states. At that point, the greedy and power-hungry see their toeholds, and manage to work their way into aspects of our lives that they shouldn’t be in…paving the way for changes that have altered our country from its original, founding intent. Therefore, we eschew celebrities for the most part (Toto notwithstanding, in a limited way, of course), in particular those of film and TV, and don’t give it any kind of promotion on our website or in print.
Well, that, and because the only one this weekend on the entire staff who isn’t busy is Jade, and we know what would likely happen if we sent her down there to cover it…Ben Affleck would probably take off with her, and we’d have to deal with a seething Jennifer Garner. And we just don’t want that.
Carry on.
