HARDIN CO.—We’ve just learned via social networking media (Facebook) that former Elizabethtown town marshal/fire chief/ambulance director Ed Conkle is dead.
Ed may have gotten crossways with us back in May when the devastating floods hit E-town, but up to that point, we got along with him and he was really helpful telling us about goings-on in E-town. He filled us with inside information about certain ones around town (and Hardin overall, actually) and gave us some insight into a book of photos that he and a fellow law enforcement officer had collected over the years, including the location of said book that we might obtain upon his death. Sincerely, I think he was fearing the release of the information about this particular photobook regarding repercussions from the other guy, and that may have been what gave him the impetus to hang on as long as he did with his transplanted organs. He did a good job with the transplant, even though he was having to undergo dialysis frequently throughout the week. Reports were that he held up stoically throughout the procedure, each and every time.
The Facebook postings are saying that Ed had a heart attack. RIP, man. Just because we got into a pissing contest with you doesn’t mean we hated you.
