EDWARDS CO.—A wreck on Illinois 130 in Edwards County has left a driver with injuries and being flown from the scene.

According to Edwards County Sheriff Darby Boewe, the wreck, which occurred shortly before noon today (Friday, September 13, 2013), happened when a Chevy SUV was rear-ended by a semi in the southbound lane of 130 after the SUV was attempting to make a left turn into a driveway (to a residence on the east side of 130).

The location is several yards south of County Road 1375 North, where there have been other accidents in the past, usually because fast-moving semis on the truck route leaving the Walmart DC in Olney to points south have a hard time seeing what’s on the other side of that rise at the 1375 turn.

The road in question "begins" off 130 as 1410, then "turns into" 1375 along the same stretch, this according to google maps and E911.

Boewe said the SUV was “pretty smashed up” and the driver, a female whose name will be given when Illinois State Police conclude working the accident, had to be extricated from her wrecked truck.

She was airlifted from the scene, Boewe said, after members of his department and other rescue services were able to get her out of the SUV. He was not certain of the extent of her injuries and deferred that information to ISP.

Traffic was still backed up on both lanes at 1 p.m.; Boewe just advised that at 1:45, the traffic was still down to one lane, but was moving.

Motorists on 130 are urged to use caution in the area until ISP is able to clear the scene. ambu at 130 wreck
