LAWRENCE CO.—Illinois State Police have posted information to the media line about one of the two deaths that occurred between 8 and 8:15 Saturday, September 7, 2013.
ISP reports that William (Bill) Craig Mast, 28, of Oaktown, Indiana, was traveling on U.S. Route 50 at about 8:13 p.m. in a 2005 Ford Taurus when the Taurus left the roadway to the right, went over the guardrail off 50 eastbound, about five miles east of Lawrenceville, and crashed onto the highway that runs below 50, 33.
Mast was transported to Methodist Hospital in Indianapolis, but was declared deceased at 1:02 a.m. our time Sunday morning, Sept. 8.
Unfortunately, eyewitnesses with Mast at Tykal’s that night in Lawrenceville described him to Disclosure as “too drunk to drive,” something that ISP did not note in their report.
Mast was reportedly the manager of Casey’s in Bridgeport, this information coming to us from Lawrence County officials.
Then, two days later, a motorcycle accident occurred at the exit ramp off U.S. 50 to Lake Lawrence, east of Lawrenceville.
ISP reported that the crash occurred at 2:45 a.m. Monday morning, Sept. 9, when John L. Frederick, 40, of Lawrenceville, was taking the exit off 50 to Lake Lawrence on his 2002 Harley, and his bike left the roadway on the east side, then traveled east on a grassy stretch before coming to rest.
Frederick was pronounced dead at the scene by Lawrence County Coroner Shannon Steffey.
