UPDATE 8 p.m.
UPDATE 7 p.m.
All authorities are pulling out of Washington Park in Robinson and are headed back to Southwind, a trailer park in town that was among the first of the areas where the focus was on for the search involving Jared Carter.
Carter, who is serving a sentence at Robinson Correctional Center for multiple burglaries, forgery and theft, has been eluding searchers since about 10:30 a.m. this morning when he left the prison grounds, managing an escape from the minimum-security prison.
Another update to report is that a search dog has arrived at Parkside Liquors parking lot, where it’s believed Carter may have been at some point in time over the past two hours.
More as we get it.
UPDATE 6:00 p.m.
UPDATE 5:45 P.M.
CARTER HAS BEEN SPOTTED ON CRAFT STREET IN ROBINSON, according to confirmed reports.
The reports indicate “subject was covered in tattoos and asked a young man (not a kid, as some reports have it) direction to any street but a main street.”
He was wearing state pants and a commissary shirt, this according to the young man, Ryan Lamb, whom Carter asked for directions; Lamb used to be in prison and knows the clothes.
Officials are taking a photo of Carter to Lamb for confirmation.
This was at about 5:30; subject was headed southbound from Washington Grade School. Crawford Memorial Hospital has been placed on lockdown.
More as we get it.
UPDATE 5 P.M.
Jared Carter is still at large, having escaped from Robinson Correctional custody at about 10:30 a.m. this morning.
Police from several communities have been seen racing to cover absences in areas more adjacent to Robinson in Crawford County (example: Marshall city and Clark County authorities have gone to Crawford help, so Champaign-Urbana authorities have come south to cover Clark absences, this according to sources on the ground in those locations.)
The news of the escaped prisoner has made headlines statewide and coverage of the event is showing the keen interest in it.
In the latest update, house-to-house searches were being conducted on the “Florida” streets of Robinson (Tampa, Clearwater, Orlando) at 4:30 but are concluded now.
The searches of the homes in that area, including all mobile homes in Bennett’s Trailer Park and 14th Street additionally to the Florida Streets, were ceased shortly before 5 p.m. and the officers searching are now focusing their investigation on the fields surrounding the area. There are four teams in the fields right now.
There have been no problems getting the kids home from school and parents are expressing their gratitude for the way everything was handled as school was letting out.
UPDATE 3:30 P.M.
We don’t have much of an update yet except that Carter is still at large, dogs have been brought in, aircraft have been spotted over Robinson (and are no doubt in the air to aid in the search) and school officials are allowing parents to pick up their kids under HEAVY security provided by police and school officials. The kids are VERY secure; nothing but praise is being heaped upon the schools, under the supervision of Josh Quick, superintendent, as well as the Robinson police and Crawford County Sheriff’s Department.
There are about four hours of daylight left to search for Carter. Those throughout and surrounding Robinson, use caution, keep doors and windows locked, on both houses and vehicles, and stay out of the way of those searching for the escapee.
