HARRISBURG—The break-ins in Harrisburg continue to occur, and a city councilman is the latest casualty.
We received word at 11:07 p.m. tonight (Wednesday, 08.28.13) that city commissioner John McPeek returned home to find his house having been broken into, accessed via the back door.
The ensuing reports indicate that the thieves made off with a 20-gauge shotgun, untold other objects, and trashed the place, destroying certain art objects and leaving clothing strewn about the entire house.
McPeek lives up in the area near Country Club Hills that was decimated during the Leap Day Tornado of 2012. His house sustained significant damage and has only been repaired.
He advises that all citizens check their doors upon leaving their homes, as the burglars/thieves apparently accessing his home might have been the same batch who have performed other break-ins recently, in particular, on South Street and Webster Street.
More as we get it.
