LAWRENCE CO.—The sentencing phase for a young Wabash County man convicted of murder in Lawrence County has been delayed again.
Tyler McQueen, convicted in May of First Degree Murder in the March 25, 2012 stabbing death of Bob Westall, 78, in Lawrenceville, was set for sentencing this past Friday, August 23, a second continuance in the sentencing (originally set for late July).
However, that sentencing was once again delayed and is now on the court’s calendar for October 11.
Most of the time these delays are attributable to an issue with pre-sentencing investigations.
We don’t know if that’s the case this time; the probation staff in Lawrence are very adept at their jobs and usually can get through the process in the proscribed period of time (ordinarily, 90 days). However, McQueen had NO criminal history prior to the incident, and so it might be a more difficult PSI than usual.
McQueen’s co-defendant, Helen Marie Westall (Bob’s niece), charged with Solicitation to Commit Murder for Hire, has yet to have a date set in her case, and will be enjoying a change of venue out of Lawrence, as successfully argued for last month. No location has been chosen yet.
