CARRIER MILLS—A Carrier Mills man is in custody tonight following a pursuit out of his home town, into Harrisburg, then a high-speed chase back to the Mills again, where the pursuit ended in a crash.

Leroy F. Agin

Leroy F. Wallace

Leroy F. Wallace, 51, was the subject of a call at about 8:30 tonight (08.23.12) to authorities in the Mills by his own father, who is a preacher so we’re told, and who was present when, he told authorities, the younger Wallace was in the yard of the elder, “threatening to kill people…but he didn’t have a weapon,” this according to reports.

Once it was ascertained from the elder Wallace what vehicle Leroy was driving and where he was headed (“probably to his ex-girlfriend’s in Harrisburg”), officers headed out that way and the vehicle was located in the vicinity of the museum in Harrisburg. Saline County Deputy Lindsey Agin attempted to pull Wallace over by the museum, traveling on Longley. When Wallace spotted Agin, however, he took off again back toward Carrier Mills.

Reports indicate that one officer asked Agin if she wanted them to deploy stop sticks in the area of Ledford (on 45 before the Mills), but Agin said no, they would try to “cut him off.” The high-speed pursuit was then on, with speeds being clocked officially at 96 mph on the way to the Mills, and 55 in the 30 speed limit in town.

At Mills Street, Wallace turned and headed back out of town with officers in pursuit. However, as Wallace turned down Town Park Road, he traveled all the way to Tipple Road but didn’t quite execute the turn at the “T.” Instead, Wallace landed his car in the ditch. There was minimal damage ot it (it was reported that his license plate bracket broke off.) He was also uninjured.

Officers reported Wallace appeared to have been drinking, and Agin toted him up to the jail in Harrisburg after conducting field sobriety tests on him. At latest report, it appeared Wallace didn’t have a valid license either, to be driving at all let alone at speeds up to 96 mph.

More in the print version if we get it; on stands September 10/11.
