NEWTON—Newton officials are releasing information on an incident that occurred yesterday afternoon.
The press release reads:
At 3:34 p.m. on August 19, 2012, the Newton City Police received a report of an attempted child abduction at South Lafayette Street and West Reynolds Street in Newton.
The description of the vehicle was a full size white van occupied by one black male driver.
This information was given out to the surrounding law enforcememt agencies.
A vehicle was stopped by Effingham County authorities and the information taken of the two subjects in the vehicle matched the description given to the Newton City Police.
No other information was substantiated from the traffic stop, however, the Newton City Police continue to investigate this incident.
