LAWRENCE CO.—The bench trial for a local accused sex offender is over and with a conviction as its conclusion.
Hubert “Skip” Davis, 70, of Lawrenceville, was found guilty by Judge Robert Hopkins after a bench trial was held Monday in Lawrence County Circuit Court.
Lawrence County State’s Attorney Chris Quick charged Davis with Aggravated Criminal Sexual Abuse, a class 2 felony, after an investigation by Lawrenceville City Police, Lawrence County Sheriff’s Dept., Bridgeport Police, Bridgeport High School and D.C.F.S. revealed that inappropriate sexual behavior by Davis with three minor females occurred over the course of four years, from 2008 to 2012.
Davis has been held on $500,000 bail since May 21, 2013.
Quick said that Davis is set for sentencing by Judge Hopkins on September 30 at 10.00 a.m. The range of sentencing on a class 2 felony ranges from 3-7 years in the Illinois Department of Corrections, with 2 years supervised release.
Davis was represented by attorney Daniel Shinkle, who was appointed as public defender by the court.
“I am happy that justice has been served in this very serious case. We must always keep our children safe and protected from predators,” Quick said.
Chris Quick was instrumental, in his four years in office in Wabash County (2004-08), in putting numerous sex offenders behind bars.
