RICHLAND CO., Ill. - In another non-meth-related felony filed in Richland County this past month, another frequent flyer has managed to catch trouble in a way he probably figured wouldn’t be that big of a deal.
It was, however.
According to court documents on file in Richland County, John E. Luther, 46, of North Oak Tree Road in Olney, found himself charged with Class 2 felony Harassment of a Witness on March 11. This came about after an incident on January 29 in which it’s alleged Luther communicated directly or indirectly with a witness, Paul Fulk, in that Luther used his Facebook page to indirectly post threatening messages that would be seen by Fulk. Fulk is a witness in a pending legal proceeding involving Luther, documents show.
Luther was issued his latest charge (prior to this one, anyway) back in December of 2018, when he was charged with Burglary. Court documents don’t make it clear whether this is the pending case, or what, exactly, Luther is alleged to have posted on his Fecesbook page…but it’s nice to see public officials taking this kind of thing seriously.
In the meantime, Luther is experiencing all kinds of monetary restraints: He was able to get one Laurie Perry to post his bond on the current case in the amount of $3,000, and in the 2018 Burglary case, he’s had a bond forfeiture 30-day notice filed as of Feb. 1. There are ongoing pretrial conferences scheduled for the 2018 case; the next action on the 2019 case is a status hearing set for May 31 with no indication in court files as to why there’s a delay.
