WILLIAMSON CO., Ill. - On April 2, 2019, Edward L. Wills, 35, of Murphysboro, pled guilty to aggravated robbery, a Class 1 felony, and was sentenced to five years in the Illinois Department of Corrections (DOC), reports Williamson County State's Attorney Brandon Zanotti.
On January 2, 2017, the Marion Gas store on Main Street in Marion was robbed. The suspect brandished a gun during the robbery. Video surveillance indicated that the suspect had hand tattoos, but was wearing a mask.
DNA evidence was processed by the FBI, and after a correlation was made leading to Wills, his tattoos were also shown to have matched the store’s surveillance footage.
Wills will also be on two years of mandatory supervised release following his leaving prison. Wills has a criminal history in both Williamson and Jackson counties.
State’s Attorney Brandon Zanotti wants to thank the Marion Police Department and the FBI for their great investigative work in this case.
