The local media (Henrietta, Texas, and attendant TV stations, such as Channel 6 KAUZ) have this piece online as of this morning:

Clay County Sheriffs arrested 56-year-old Danny Eugene Bowman in connection to the death of his grandson, 9-year-old Daniel Wiley.

Bowman is charged with a second degree felony count of Abandoning or Endangering a Child.

He told Sheriff’s deputies he left his shotgun out while he went to the store, and left Daniel and his 13-year-old brother at the house with their elderly great-grandmother (Shirley Crump, who was described as “barely ambulatory” at age 76—ed.)

According to the affidavit, the 13-year-old got the shotgun and brought it outside to his younger brother. The shotgun fell, and when the 13-year-old went to pick it up, one round shot in Wiley’s face, killing him.

Bowman was taken to Clay Co. jail and his bond has been set at $50,000.

The arrest occurred Friday night at about 9:15, but the authorities didn’t release any names until last night at about 10 p.m. (Saturday, August 3, 2013). Messages left with Clay County, Texas, authorities by Disclosure indicated that we did not intend to release names until the local authorities had done so, although by 10 p.m. last night, most everyone in Harrisburg who was associated with the case knew who was involved.

Our thoughts go out to the family. More coverage will be upcoming in the print version, which will be on stands locally as of Tuesday, August 13.
