CARMI, Ill. - A warrant service was the only arrest to report out of the City of Carmi this past weekend.
Police reports indicate that the situation emerged after a tip came in from the public.
At about 2:15 p.m. Friday, March 22, Carmi police, acting on that tip, traveled to Stewart Street apartments. There, the responding officer viewed Leif Harper, 19, walking down the stairs in apartment building 2.
Harper was placed under arrest on a 2019 felony Criminal Damage Over $500 warrant. He was transported to the city/county jail, where he was able to post bond to secure his release.
Regular readers will recall that Harper was the other kid who was present when Harold Artice Ivy beat Toby Sanders, the latter of whom died of his injuries later on. Ivy is serving a small prison sentence for the beating; Harper was never charged with anything, although it was initially reported that he may have recorded the beating incident on his phone. Apparently that was just a rumor...but Harper has been in the headlines in one form or another for the past four years, as you can see at this link... so it's interesting to finally see his face in a mugshot.
