WHITE CO., Ill. - The stretch of highway dividing White County from Gallatin County has been the location of several deadly vehicle crashes, and yesterday, one claimed the life of an Edwards County man.
Illinois State Police worked the wreck yesterday, Friday, March 22, 2019.
Preliminary investigative reports indicate that Ricky M. Michl, Jr., 43 of Albion, had been traveling westbound on Illinois Route 141 and had stopped at the intersection of 141 at White County Road 1200E.
Keith L. Gibson, 64 of Evansville, Ind., was also westbound at the same location coming up behind Michl. Gibson advised ISP that he didn't realize Michl had come to a stop, and Gibson was unable to stop in time before striking the rear of Michl's vehicle.
Michl was transported to a local hospital, where he was pronounced deceased from his injuries.
Gibson and a passenger were transported by ambulance to a regional hospital for treatment of their injuries sustained; Gibson has subsequently been cited for Failure to Reduce Speed to Avoid an Accident.
ISP was assisted at the scene by the White County Sheriff’s Department, New Haven Fire Department, Ridgway Fire Department, White County Ambulance Service, Vernelle’s Towing, and Cherry Street Automotive.
