Fifty-something allegedly strikes 20-something, gets trip to jail

PALESTINE, Ill. - An evening incident got a 54-year-old Palestine resident locked up after things allegedly became violent.

Palestine Police Chief Jeff Besing said that at approximately 6:15 p.m. this evening (Wednesday, March 13, 2019) he was dispatched to the 500 block of W. Franklin Street, Palestine, in reference to an assault incident.

Upon the conclusion of his investigation, Chief Besing located and arrested Jeffery R. Craig, 54 of Palestine, for Battery after Craig allegedly struck the victim, Christopher S. Lutz, 25 of Palestine, in the facial area.

Craig was transported to the Crawford County Jail where he was charged and processed for Battery, a Class A misdemeanor, and is being held in lieu of a cash bond.

Crawford County Deputy Terry Carr assisted in this investigation.
