We don't do Mardi Gras, not really...but we absolutely do King Cake. Also, Cajun music; check out our playlist on Spotify.

My dear auntie down south got us this year's King Cake delivered Friday afternoon. That sucker was made Friday MORNING. Rouse's guarantees delivery as quickly after it's baked as possible...and they did it. Baked it before dawn Friday, according to the packaging, and it got here by FedEx by sundown. By my calculations, ten hours from oven to back step at the farm.

We've been consuming it. It's more calories than we're used to, but hey....King Cake!!

For the uninitiated, here's the background of King Cake, including an explanation of the baby stuck in the cake that you see above. Rouse's doesn't put the baby IN the cake; it's a choking hazard. The recipients of the delivered King Cakes, therefore, have to insert said baby into whatever part of the cake they wish. We don't stick the baby anywhere except the icing so you can see it, then we remove it. I think the cats are using it as a toy right now. Which actually is great; EVERYBODY in the house is now enjoying some aspect of King Cake!!
Here are our previous adventures with King Cake: 2010, 2011, 2012. We loves em.
For those of you who do observe Mardi Gras, it's this Tuesday, March 5. As they say down south en Francais....Laissez les bon temps rouler!
