SALINE CO.—In follow up to the issue yesterday afternoon (a press conference regarding a dog attack in Eldorado last month), the veterinarian in charge of the investigation has reached a conclusion on the status of the dog in question.

dangerous dogDr. Cliff Morris has determined that the pit bull owned by Johnathan Roe, which dog was impounded recently for ten days but was released, meets the criteria for a “dangerous” dog.

We’ve been advised by Saline County officials that Morris—who has been tasked with administrating the case—called Roe today to inform him that his dog is now categorized as “dangerous” and must be kept under special confinement and restricted outdoor movement conditions from here on.

According to state law, two more instances of confirmed “dangerous dog” activity—such as the instance in which the pit killed a Shih Tzu last month—can constitute a “vicious” dog and can result in even more restrictive confinement conditions for the pit.

Roe has already been cited by the city of Eldorado for an ordinance violation in the attack, and the Shih Tzu’s owner, Shawnna Mitchell, has filed a Small Claims case in civil court in Saline County as regards the incident, her loss, and the injury to her 12-year-old son.

There’ll be more on the case in the next print version, on stands in less than two weeks, and available right here at the e-Edition on Monday, August 12. Be watching for updates between now and then.
