WILLIAMSON CO., Ill. - The Williamson County Sheriff's Office has released information about an incident that occurred this morning in the Cambria area of the county.
Sheriff Bennie Vick said that at about 1 a.m. this morning (Tuesday, February 12), his office received a report of a young child, about 3 years of age, without clothing running in an open field near Cambria. The caller had temporarily placed the child in his or her vehicle to provide shelter from the weather (the caller was not identified).
Williamson County deputies, Cambria police, and Cambria Ambulance were dispatched. The child was physically unharmed and was transported to Cambria Police Department.
Parents of the child were located at their residence, near where the child had been found. The parents were unaware that the child had left the residence.
The Illinois Department of Children and Family Services (DCFS) were contacted. After interviewing the parents and other children in the home, DCFS took steps to ensure the future safety of the children while their investigation continues. Submitted press information does not indicate what those "steps" were.
