FAYETTE CO., Ill. - Ice on the roadway as well as differing speeds caught up two truck drivers in a collision this morning in Fayette County.
Illinois State Police in Effingham's District 12 report that the two-vehicle collision occurred on Interstate 70 this morning (Sunday, February 10) at 8:16 a.m.
Preliminary investigative details indicate that a white 2009 Volvo truck-tractor being driven by Stephen Baxter, 63, of Indianapolis, was traveling at a slow speed due to severe weather and icing on the roadway.
A green 2015 Freightliner truck-tractor being driven by Hugh E. Fine, 59, of Heiskell, Tenn., was traveling too fast for conditions, and crashed into the back of the Freightliner at milepost 53 on I-70.
Baxter was transpoerted to Fayette County Hospital; Fine was cited for Driving Too Fast for Conditions.
