Several injured in two-car Hawthorne Township crash, White County

WHITE CO., Ill. - A number of people were injured - some apparently seriously - following a two-car collision in Hawthorne Township, rural White County, yesterday.

White County authorities worked the crash, which occurred at 10:15 a.m. Sunday, January 27, at the intersection of the Epworth Blacktop and Maunie road, due south of Carmi.

The accident report shows that a 2007 Toyota Camry being driven by Katina J. Owens, 23, of Stewart Street in Carmi, was stopped eastbound at the intersection, but did not adequately check for oncoming traffic. With Owens were four passengers: Bobby Owens, 21 of Carmi; Stacy Owens, 20 of Carmi; a 5-year-old juvenile female, of Carmi; and Amber Owens, 18 of Carmi.

Owens pulled out into the path of an oncoming northbound 2018 Toyota Camry LE/SE being driven by James F. Dagley, 68 of Gilpin St. in Carmi. With Dagley was passenger Pauline Dagley, 66, also of Carmi.

The Owens vehicle was thrown 73 feet from the point of impact; the Dagley vehicle was thrown 45 feet from the point of impact, according to the sheriff's department accident assessment.

Katrina and Bobby Owens were taken to Deaconess Hospital in Evansville, via helicopter.

The Dagleys, as well as Stacy and Amber Owens, were all transported via ambulance to area hospitals. The child is reported to have refused treatment at the scene and was taken by private vehicle to an area hospital.

A sign for J&B Sand and Gravel was damaged in the ensuing collision.

It appeas that no citations have been issued as yet.
