HARDIN CO.— According to sources, the niece of disgraced Gallatin County sheriff Raymond Martin, who now sits in federal prison after a drug conviction, has been arrested.
Sources indicate that Carla A. Howard, 37, was involved in a single car crash last night, Saturday, July 27, in Hardin County.
Howard was reportedly traveling northbound (northeasterly, actually) on Illinois Rte. 146 at Potters Creek bridge when she claims to have swerved to miss a deer, struck barricades, hit a nearby guard rail and slid to a stop in the southbound lane.
Witnesses say there were no skid marks at the scene.
Howard reportedly told authorities she was leaving Elizabethtown after going there to “meet the man of her dreams.”
Apparently that didn’t turn out so well.
“He turned out to be an asshole,” Howard reportedly said.
Howard, the only occupant in the vehicle at the time of the crash, was not injured, failed a field sobriety test, refused a breathalyzer and was eventually taken into custody and charged with one count of Driving Under the Influence.
Despite having gone to E’town to meet the man of her dreams, Howard was reportedly bonded out of county jail by her current boyfriend.
