CARMI, Ill. - After a pseudo-eventful New Year's Eve and New Year's Day, city cops got a break in Carmi yesterday, January 2, with one lone traffic stop to report.
That occurred at 9:22 a.m., when a traffic stop on Abelson Drive at College Boulevard found an elderly gent driving on a suspended license (allegedly, of course).
At least, that's what the officer pulled over James D. Smith, 71 of Carmi, for as cause for the stop. But when he got Smith stopped, the officer got a bonus: Smith was allegedly illegally transporting alcohol, and so he was toted off to jail and mugshot before being processed.
Smith was able to post the requisite $150 cash bond to be sprung from the pokey, and away he went (although reports don't indicate who drove him...or whether there was any alcohol made available.)
