MARION, Ill. - An officer was injured but an alleged crack dealer is behind bars after a traffic stop lead to a bust by the Marion Police Department Narcotics Unit (MPDNU).
Authorities advised that on December 18, 2018 the Marion Police Department Narcotics Unit initiated an investigation identifying Robert J. Davis (B/M 48 years of age) as a distributor of crack cocaine and possession of additional controlled substances.
During the incident Detectives were conducting surveillance in the area of DeYoung and Russell streets and observed suspicious behavior consistent with that of drug sales. During the mentioned surveillance Detectives observed Davis commit multiple traffic infractions in the vehicle that he was operating.
A traffic stop was conducted on Davis’ vehicle in the 2100 block of Melanie Lane. During the traffic stop, Davis failed to comply with the investigation and became involved in a physical altercation with officers, resulting in an injury to one of the participating officers. Davis was found to be in possession of approximately two ounces of crack cocaine and an additional amount of methamphetamine that he was apparently trying to destroy/discard.
A vehicle being utilized in the incident (shown above) and approximately $6500.00 (opening photo) were seized pending asset forfeiture. Robert Davis was issued citations for Manufacture/Delivery of Crack Cocaine, Possession of Methamphetamine, Aggravated Battery to a Peace Officer and Resisting/Obstructing a Peace Officer. Davis was conveyed to the Williamson County Jail awaiting his first appearance.
