SHAWNEETOWN, Ill. - Illinois State Police worked a two-vehicle wreck yesterday afternoon, after a collision between a school bus and an SUV occurred in town.
ISP reports that the wreck took place at 3:20 p.m. Monday, December 3.
According to the preliminary traffic crash investigation, the driver of a 2009 Blue Ribbon Coach school bus, Sheila Jenkins, 52, of Equality, was stopped at the westbound yield sign on McClernand Avenue at the intersection with North Lincoln Boulevard in Shawneetown (Gallatin County).
Jenkins proceeded to cross North Lincoln Boulevard when she struck the passenger side of a gray 2007 Chevrolet Avalanche, being driven by Robert P. Downen, 91, of Shawneetown, traveling on North Lincoln Boulevard.
Neither Jenkins, nor Downen, received any injuries from the traffic crash. In addition, none of the 20 juveniles being transported on the school bus reported any injuries.
Both vehicles were driven from the crash scene. The Shawneetown Police Department assisted ISP District 19 at the crash scene.
Jenkins received a citation for Failure to Yield at a Yield Intersection.
