WHITE CO.— Authorities in Carmi and White County have announced that the Carmi Police Department and White County Sheriff’s Department will be conducting a mock ‘active assailant’ scenario at the Washington Avenue Attendance Center, located in Carmi.
The training is scheduled to take place Wednesday, December 5, at 2:45 p.m.
Authorities have advised that, as in the past, students will not be present during the drill, as they will be dismissed early from school that day.
Teachers from the entire Carmi District will all convene at and participate in the Washington Attendance Center ‘mock assailant’ drill.
Officials say that these types of drills are not only mandatory by law but also necessary and important for both law enforcement and teachers to be as prepared as possible for any type of lock down or active assailant incident.
Again, there will be no students present during this training exercise and authorities are going out of their way to notify the public so citizens are made aware that this specific date and time will be a training exercise only.
The public should not be alarmed if they see several law enforcement officers present at the school or hear calls via dispatchers on the radio frequency during these times.
