A Black Friday special for you: Another Print Headlines, this one May 2018!

Try working in retail, kid. Hint: The customer isn't ALWAYS right....

We opted to give you some fun reading this holiday weekend to perk you up (because, really...who cares about Black Friday shopping...) so we've fixed up another "back issue" of sorts for Print Headlines.

Borrelia babesia. We have millions of those in us. Billions maybe. And all the other borrelias, and bartonella, AND probably powassan, although there's no test for that yet.

As you know, the print version is gone, but the e-Edition Archives live on right here, and some of you regular e-Edition readers might not've caught all the articles from each issue in the past year and a half or so since both of us had to undergo extensive treatment for Lyme, and my e-Edition/Print Headlines assistant, Ang (she puts together a lot of the technical stuff for e-Edition) was flat laid out for many, many months over the past two years and was unable to do much at all, meaning I wasn't able to get Print Headlines to you for each and every issue. So the ones we missed (which were pretty near all of them this year, and many in 2017) are now going to come your way every so often so we can catch you up, and have a comprehensive database you can refer back to for e-Edition Archives.

Print Headlines are our way of helping you decide what you want to read in the monthly issue we used to produce (twice monthly before we got really sick. Please, folks....take Lyme very seriously. Don't eat deer with CWD; we believe that's Lyme; and please use insect repellant if you're going into our beautiful national forest. It's out there.) We lay out Print Headlines with hotlinks directly to the e-Edition article, and provide you with a snarky synopsis of what's in the lead articles. Each headline is preceded by a dateline (where the material in the story took place) so you can see what's pertinent to your community. They are presented in the sections that we used to present the paper in: Front Page, Back Page (our second front page), Pages 2/3, Features if there are any (usually pages 12 or 13), Egypt, Heartland, Central, and Op-Ed (a little out of order with Op-Ed, but that's okay, right?) And so now, without further ado, we bring you all the stuff no other media outlet in the area dared to touch in THIS ISSUE'S PRINT HEADLINES for May 2018!

FRONT PAGE

Gerald Foster

RICHLAND CO. - Acquitted in a 3-day DUI jury trial: No one else told you the reality of what happened with the case of Gerald Foster, the Olney man accused, by our pretend prosecutor David Hyde, of killing a young man on a county road in 2015 in what Hyde believed was a DUI accident. In the trial, held on a venue change in Wayne County and prosecuted by a stand-in (since Hyde resigned a few months after the charge was filed), Foster was cleared. And people were mad. But facts are facts...and we told them to you first and never wavered. Here's the wrap, and the details no one else in the coverage area bothered with.

Thomas Davidson

WHITE CO. - Convicted murderer harassing county officials with FOIAs: Here's another one that NO ONE else picked up on: Convicted murderer Thomas Davidson - the man who killed Sandra Burkhardt in a heartbreaking abduction and shooting in a Crossville cornfield in August 2013 - apparently thinks that FOIA-ing the White County Sheriff's Department will somehow help him with his appeal to overturn his sentence. Hey. He killed a woman. We already know he's not that bright. The article, however, can put away all doubts.

Alex Beal

CLAY CO. - Child death in Clay City: Too many people being left alone with too many helpless infants and children who should never be around children to begin with has resulted in the permanent injuries or deaths of said children. We've been awash with them in southern Illinois. Here's another.

GOLCONDA - Getting ready for summer: We were at the river a lot during production of this particular issue (just needed a change of scenery) and it was post-flood, so the Golconda city workers were clearing the muck from the boat ramps. We thought it was a nice, pre-summer shot, so we took it, and boy...we sold a lot of papers at Gas n Go on account of that pic! Maybe Golconda would like a nice paper covering Pope County doings in the future...

BACK PAGE

Kash Barners

MARION - Saline Felon busted in Williamson, alleged to possess firearm, cannabis: Every single time we ever wrote anything AT ALL about Harrisburg punk Kash Barners, his fan club went nuts, calling us "racists" and all kinds of ignorant slurs. Even when he was picked up in a righteous bust this past spring, the same happened. Here's the article about the bust that started the idiocy.

SALINE CO. - Curry redux: Fourth bond violation this year, still out running around: Dan Curry was finally sent off to prison, but not for any meaningful period of time. Had Mike Henshaw still been around when Curry was busted in late 2017 after his wife allegedly took a shot at him, thus endangering all the neighbors, Henshaw would've jerked a knot in Curry's tail toot sweet. Jayson Clark didn't have that much gumption, however, and so here we are.

JOHNSON CO. - Johnson County residents perplexed over lack of reference to reality of sheriff's deputy situation: Johnson is another one of those counties that could do with a good, solid newspaper that actually covers news in their area as opposed to covering over when a public official or two behaves badly and gets caught. Readers down that way begged us to look into this situation, and we did; here's the resulting article..

PAGE 2

Jayson Clark

SALINE CO. - Saline County State's Attorney seeking divorce: Straight coverage of something we promised we'd not get into too deeply...and it turns out, we didn't need to. Some people are perfectly adequate at destroying themselves and everything they have going for them without any kind of assistance from anyone or anything.

HARDIN CO. - Judge sued by insurer in irrigation system case: Hardin County resident judge Paul Lamar is back on the docket...but in a different role. This is a very interesting case highlighting how Big Ag is just...too big, really.

WABASH CO. - Litigant wants to tarnish Mt. Carmel's golden arches: Enough with the litigious society. Yall do know you're letting attorneys run things...right?

RICHLAND CO. - Woman injured in Boar's Nest 4-wheeler accident sues estate of deceased driver: Somehow we missed this accident when it happened, but then again, the fact that there was no press release disseminated on it - as provided by authorities working the accident - might've been what lead to the lawsuit on the civil level.

PAGE 3

RICHLAND CO. - Ex of accused bath salts-slinger sued for credit card default: DJ Thacker left a mess in his wake; his wife and kids have had to pay dearly for it. This is but one example.

GALLATIN CO. - Correction/amplification: Got an identity wrong in a previous issue; here's the correction on it.

PAGE 12 FEATURE

Hughes and Co.

WILLIAMSON CO. - Probate case in Williamson pits guardian against mom after dad experiences 'fall': The ongoing saga of poor ol Ryan Hughes, whose bad habits keep putting him in harm's way...but constantly behind the eight ball with debt. Regular readers who know the story from five years ago are no doubt thinking "If only he'd have just paid his child support..."
