CARMI, Ill. - A report of stolen checks cashed in Harrisburg was made earlier this week in Carmi with police authorities; that and a traffic stop that got a local gal arrested comprise the city police report.
The victim of this theft is reported to be Jodon L. Newman, 36 of an address on the 400 block of Fourth Street in Carmi.
Newman signed a complaint Tuesday of this week (November 20) after he discovered that the checks had been stolen and cashed at a bank in Harrisburg. Copies of four cashed checks were given to authorities; presumably the locations where they will be cashed will be contacted, and since everything is under video surveillance these days, we look for an arrest to be made pretty soon; check back about this time next week.
In an earlier incident Carmi police handled, this one occurring over the past weekend, a traffic stop lead to an arrest of a local gal.
Just after 4 p.m. Saturday (Nov. 17), a Carmi police officer observed Crystal M. Shelton, 27 of an address on Schumaker Street in Carmi, driving a 4-door Taurus on Oak Street.
Knowing Shelton to have a suspended Illinois Driver's license, the officer stopped her on Oak Street near Ninth, where she was taken into custody. She was transported to the city/county jail, where she was later released after posting $150 cash bond. She has also been cited for operating an uninsured motor vehicle. Don's Towing assisted Carmi police by removing the car.
