William E. (Billy) Batty

CARMI, Ill. - There were only a couple of incidents occurring on the Carmi Police Department blotter between yesterday and this morning (Friday, November 2), but both of the reports were rather serious.

That’s what happened this morning when, at 3:07 a.m.,, authorities were called to a location on the 900 block of Fackney Street.

There they found frequent flyer and felon William Earl (Billy) Batty, 46, in a dispute with his daughter, whose identity wasn’t released. During the dispute, it’s alleged, Batty battered the daughter in some way, so he was taken into custody and charged with Domestic Battery.

Batty remains locked up as of this evening at White County.

A traffic stop yesterday was the only other incident police reported.

That’d be Shania A. Miller, 22, of Carmi, who was stopped on Plum Street at Main Thursday at 8:01 a.m.

Miller, reports indicate, was stopped for speeding in a school zone, and arrested for driving while license suspended.

She was able to post bond to secure her release, but she’ll probably get a good tongue-lashing by authorities over the incident, given that there have been a number of deaths of children this week associated with school bus stops; while this was not s stopped school bus incident, it was nevertheless in an area and at a time when children are generally in the area. Folks need to leave earlier and SLOW DOWN.
