WILLIAMSON CO., Ill. - The heavy rains yesterday and overnight created a situation that caused a big rig to overturn on Interstate 57 in Williamson County,, sending its occupants to an area hospital with minor injuries.

Illinois State Police in District 13 DuQuoin worked the accident, which occurred early this morning (Thursday, November 1, 2018) at 1:51 a.m.

ISP reports that Jonathan Harold Swanson, 28, of Houston, Texas, was behind the wheel of a white 2016 Freightliner truck-tractor with trailer in the southbound lanes of 57 at milepost 52 in Williamson, when he encountered standing water on the roadway surface.

The vehicle hydroplaned and traveled off the roadway, overturning.

Swanson and a passenger, Mark Demond Brown, 36, of Corsicana, Texas, both suffered non-life-threatening injuries and were both taken to Heartland Regional Hospital in Marion for treatment.

Swanson was later cited for Improper Lane Usage, although initially ISP said the cause was Driving Too Fast for Conditions.
