CUMBERLAND CO., Ill. - An octogenarian from the state of Maryland ran off the Interstate earlier today, landing in a cornfield with minor injuries.
Illinois State Police in District 12 Effingham said the single-vehicle incident occurred at 10:17 a.m. this morning, Sunday, October 21.
The preliminary investigation, ISP said, indicates that a black 2018 Mercedes-Benz being driven by Donald Frost 84, of Silver Spring, Maryland, was traveling eastbound on Interstate 70 in Cumberland County at that time.
At approximately milepost 115, the vehicle left the roadway to the right, striking a tree and other brush in the right ditch, before coming to rest in the interstate fence line and slightly inside a cornfield.
Frost was transported to St. Anthony's Hospital in Effingham with unspecified injuries. He was later cited for Improper Lane Usage; there's been no cause attributed to the accident.
