CARBONDALE, Ill. - A two-vehicle accident Wednesday afternoon in Carbondale sent two area women to hospitals with what Illinois State Police say are incapacitating injuries.
ISP in District 13 DuQuoin advised that the crash occurred at 2:50 p.m. October 18.
Preliminary investigative details indicate that a 2018 Ford Focus being driven by Jane Ann Winther, 50, of Anita, Iowa, was eastbound on East Walnut in the center of three lanes near Cedarview Street.
A 1994 Ford Mustang being driven by Bertha C. Humm, 38, of DeSoto, was also eastbound in the same location, but in the left lane of three.
Winther began to make a lane change into the left lane after checking and not seeing the Mustang in her blind spot. The two vehicles struck in a sideswipe-type crash.
The Mustang, forced off the left side of the roadway, struck a utility pole on the northeast corner of East Walnut and Cedarview Street, breaking the pole. The pole remained standing, supported by the wires.
Humm and a passenger in her Mustang, Alexandria D. Hartwick, 20, of Carterville, were both injured and transported via ambulance to a local hospital. Winther was uninjured.
No citations have been issued.
