FAYETTE CO., Ill. - A 16-year-old passenger was airlifted out of the area for treatment of injuries sustained in a two-vehicle collision yesterday in Fayette County.
Illinois State Police in District 12 Effingham report that the collision occurred in the village of St. Elmo at 5:35 p.m. yesterday, Monday, October 15.
Preliminary investigative details indicate that a silver 2007 Pontiac G6 being driven by a 17-year-old male of Vandalia, with a passengers, a 16-year-old female of St. Elmo and a 17-year-old male from Vandalia, in the vehicle with him.
The G6 was backing out of a driveway onto Sixth Place Road in St. Elmo, located a quarter-mile west of Ash Street in the village of St. Elmo, when a black 2011 Chevrolet Malibu being driven by Jenna R. Long, 20 of St. Elmo, traveling eastbound on Sixth Place Road, struck the G6 in the rear passenger side.
The 16-year-old female passenger was flown to St. John's Hospital by AirEvac; both the 17-year-old driver and the 17-year-old male passenger were transported to Fayette County Hospital in Vandalia by ambulance. Long was transported to St. Anthony's Memorial Hospital in Effingham by ambulance. There has been no word issued about their conditions.
The 17-year-old male driver was cited for No Valid Driver's License. Failure to Yield from Private Road or Drive, and Failure to Secure Child in a Child Restraint System (that'd apparently be the 16-year-old, whom Illinois law considers a child.)
