FAYETTE CO., Ill. - A truck driver and a passenger were transported to Fayette County Hospital earlier today after a steer tire blew on their rig when trying to negotiate a turn.
Illinois State Police worked the 10:40 a.m. wreck today, Thursday, October 11.
Preliminary investigative details indicate that a burgundy-colored 2012 Freightliner truck-tractor being driven by Jossie A. Carranza Barrios, 26, of Norwalk, California, was traveling Interstate 70 eastbound at milepost 53 in the right lane of traffic. Barrios was negotiating a curve to the left when the front passenger side steer tire blew out.
The truck was no longer able to negotiate the turn and left the roadway to the right, continuing down an embankment and impacting a ditch before coming to rest upright.
Both Barrios and a passenger, Rafael G. Santos, 53, of Huntington Beach, Calif., were transported to Fayette County Hospital with unspecified injuries. No citations were issued.
